Nestled at the base of Squaw Valley USA, home of the 1960 Olympics, is The Resort at Squaw Creek. Most would think that this resort would be a winter skiing resort, but not so. The Resort can be enjoyed year-round, no matter which time of the year you chose to visit. I chose to go in October, so I could enjoy the crisp fall weather and see the change of foliage of the Aspen trees. Hiking on the paths of the golf course and smelling the scent of the pine trees is more than invigorating.

Conveniently located 42 miles west of the Reno/Tahoe Airport, regularly scheduled airport shuttles, Squaw Valley Shuttles and Charter services are available. The Resort’s transportation department operates a fleet of vehicles year round, or by driving, it is 200 miles east of San Francisco and 100 miles east of Sacramento via I-80 and 5 miles from the western shores of Lake Tahoe. Accommodations include deluxe rooms, oversized suites and bi-level penthouse units.

Winter is the time to participate in world-class snow skiing on the Olympic slopes along with snowboarding, dog sled tours, snowshoeing, outdoor skating, cross country skiing and sleigh rides drawn by rare blond Belgian horses.

For summertime recreation, take the golf clubs along and enjoy some rounds of golf on their championship Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf course. Enjoy the three-pool water garden complete with a 120-ft. waterslide. The heated pool is open year-round, and even in October I enjoyed my swimming. Clear, sunny, and warm days make tennis, hiking, river rafting, horseback riding and mountain biking more enjoyable and can easily be arranged. Why not try fly-fishing in the creek! A wide range of water sports, sightseeing and, of course, casinos are just a 5-mile ride to the Lake Tahoe shoreline. Transportation is complimentary to downtown Tahoe City or Truckee for shopping and dining. Late October is their autumn food and wine festival. The Valley attractions include the Scenic Cable Car rides to the top of Squaw Valley where visitors may enjoy ice skating the Olympic Ice Pavilion and swim in the outdoor pool.

Three restaurants include Glissandi, the Resort’s signature restaurant, Ristorante Montagna with their Italian cuisine in a casual setting, or Cascades, with breathtaking views of the Squaw Valley. Enjoy Bullwhacker’s Pub, an alpine steakhouse and sports bar, is a north Lake Tahoe hot spot. The Pub serves lunch and dinner daily. On the light side, there is the Sweet Potatoes Deli, a quaint marketplace that provides gourmet coffees, light breakfasts, deli sandwiches, salads and homemade soups. The Deli serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.

When all done with your invigorating activities, treat yourself to their spa treatments with massages, facials, salon services and body treatments. Also available is the Health & Fitness Center with views of the ice rink and pools.

Shopping is close by! Stroll through an array of fabulous boutiques. The Resort features eight shops offering oil paintings, fine jewelry, designer sportswear and collectables.
