Antigua – ALLEGRO
RESORT PINAPPLE BEACH - the resort opened in February of this year
and
I had an opportunity
to be one of their first guests to experience the all-inclusive property.
It formerly was the Pineapple Beach Club.
This new Allegro property is located on the magnificent white sand beach
of Long Bay and features 144 air-conditioned guest rooms which have garden
views and oceanfront views. The rooms are colorfully decorated in bright
pastel colors. When stepping in the door you automatically know you are in
a tropical paradise. Every unit has a balcony.
Guests have several specialty dining options. The main dining room serves
breakfast, (early morning coffee is available at 6:30am), lunch and elegant
evening dining. All meals are made to order. Lunch can also be eaten at the
Chef’s Corner adjacent to the pool and on some days, the chefs have
several grills set up near the beach so you can enjoy your lunch on your
beach chair. On specified evenings, the Margarita Grill is open, reservations
are required, and it is also a favorite spot for late night snacks…till
1:30am! And true to the name, the Margaritas are out of this world! If you
want to rough it, there is a small path that leads up to the hillside to
an intimate outdoor restaurant where you can have your lunch with a view
of the ocean. Also available are two lounges.
For guest who want to try their luck at the slots, the Pirate’s Den
offers slot machines only. For the exercise conscious, there is an air-conditioned
fitness center. Also available is nightly entertainment, four championship
tennis courts with an on-site pro. Local attractions, island tours and an
18-hole golf course are located nearby for guest’s enjoyment. For the
kids, ages 4 to 12, Allegro’s signature “Little Village Club” offers
fully supervised activities and games in a private area.
The activities program was my favorite pastime. There are such a variety
of activities, that I didn’t have enough time to experience them all.
My husband and I especially enjoyed the day outing to a private island where
we snorkeled, had lunch prepared by the captain of the boat and did a nature
walk to the top of the island. Another favorite is a Devil’ Bridge
Tour, and I tried my luck at reef fishing which also lets you have the opportunity
to view other small islands while you fish. Unfortunately, we had no luck.
If you catch fish, you can have them served to you for supper! Other options
are shopping trips to town (there is a fee), tennis clinics, sightseeing
boat trips, pool aerobics, windsurfing and sailing lessons, snorkeling, kayaking
and volleyball. With all the activities, I still had time to relax and enjoy
swimming in the clear blue water. All the activities are complimentary.
The resort lets clients enjoy a vacation with unlimited meals, snacks, alcoholic
beverages, soft drinks, juices, nightly entertainment, non-motorized watersports,
a wide variety of daily activities, taxes and gratuities for one pre-paid
price! For travel agent discount information, please call the reservation
number for details.
